Wednesday 7 August, 9 pm – Cloisters of Cimiez Monastery
Under the aegis of the City of Nice, the Association of Friends of the Musée Matisse and the Nice International Summer Academy come together to create, within the context of the Nice 2013 event, A Summer for Matisse, an exceptional musical experience in the Cloisters of Cimiez Monastery.
Two major artistes, pianist David Kadouch and violinist Laurent Korcia, playing together for the first time, will evoke Matisse in music, that of his time, with Debussy, Ravel, Fauré and that which everyone feels when they look at the works of the painter. Emotion, intensity, movement and harmony will fill the summer air of the Cloisters at Cimiez just a few steps away from the paintings on show in the Musée Matisse.

“Matisse are you there?”
Performance by Rémi Voche at the preview of the exhibition for 2013 graduates
of the Villa Arson at the Galerie de la Marine, “The sense of the wave”
Based on Matisse’s* phrase: “Should we not make
young people who have finished their studies undertake a long journey by air?”, Rémi Voche
presents a performance with reference to the large gouached cut-outs of the Master
[1as well as to his travels. The location of the activities of Rémi Voche will
start from the former workplace and home of Matisse which he occupied from 1921 to
1938, 1 place Charles-Félix, situated on the Cours Saleya, just a few steps from the gallery,
then join the quai des États-Unis and the beach, opposite the Galerie de la Marine. The
content of the performance, consisting of multiple expressions and attitudes will evoke
movement, gesture and rhythm, as in the technique of the paper cut-outs.
This technique became, after Jazz, an autonomous artistic expression that has inspired
generations of American and European artists since the 1950s.
The body of the artist will be completely covered with large blue paper cut-outs
done with scissors, to make wings and fly off towards the sea. The physical
and artistic practices of Rémi Voche, an art of reformulation pushed to the limits of instinct and
the gestural aesthetic of Matisse sculpted straight into colour are here united
by a timeless energy, which travels through time and the history of art on the Côte
